Jib cranes are classified as special equipment. Lifting operations involve safety risks such as working at heights, suspended loads, and mechanical transmission; improper operation can easily lead to accidents such as falling loads, equipment overturning, crushing injuries, and mechanical trauma. To standardize operational procedures and mitigate risks, systematic safety operating rules and key risk control measures have been established—aligned with the industry standard "Safety Code for Lifting Appliances"—to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
Pre-operation safety preparation serves as the first line of defense in risk control. Operators must hold valid certifications and be thoroughly familiar with the equipment's structure, performance, operating procedures, and emergency response protocols; operating without certification or in violation of rules is strictly prohibited. Personnel must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) before starting work; loose clothing and jewelry are forbidden to prevent entanglement in transmission mechanisms. A comprehensive equipment inspection is required to verify structural integrity (no deformation), secure fasteners (no loose bolts), functional safety devices, intact wiring, and proper lubrication. The weight of the load must be strictly verified to prevent overloading; the jib crane's rated load represents the maximum lifting capacity—including the weight of rigging and ropes—and operations involving excess weight, off-center loading, or oblique pulling/lifting are strictly prohibited. The work area must be cleared and a safety perimeter established to exclude unauthorized personnel from the operating radius and remove surrounding obstacles.
Standardized operation during the task is the core element of safety control. Equipment startup must be smooth; abrupt lifting, lowering, stopping, or turning is prohibited to prevent violent load swaying or impact stress on the equipment. Loads must be lifted vertically; once the load is stably suspended approximately 100mm above the ground, operations should pause to check balance and stress distribution before proceeding with steady lifting, lowering, or traversing. Operators must remain focused throughout the task—abandoning the post, idle chatting, and non-compliant operations are forbidden—and loads must not be left suspended for extended periods. During jib rotation and hoist movement, the direction of operation must be precisely controlled to avoid personnel, equipment, and structural obstacles, thereby preventing collisions or crushing accidents. In the event of a sudden power outage or equipment malfunction, immediately cut off the main power supply; unauthorized disassembly or repair is strictly prohibited. Promptly report the issue to management and await handling by qualified personnel.
Post-operation controls and emergency response measures are essential. Upon completion of work, return the electric hoist to the base of the cantilever arm, ensure the load rests fully on the ground, stow the lifting tackle, and park the cantilever arm in a safe position. Turn off the power and lock the control switch. Clean up the work site, organize tools and materials, and maintain accurate operational records. Conduct regular risk assessments, focusing on the prevention of five major high-risk hazards: overloading, oblique pulling or lifting, limit switch failure, unauthorized personnel entering the work zone, and operating defective equipment. Should unexpected issues arise—such as load swaying, abnormal equipment noise, or braking irregularities—immediately lower the load safely to the ground and halt operations to investigate the hazard; forced operation with existing faults is strictly prohibited. Implement routine safety training and emergency drills to enhance operators' risk identification and emergency response capabilities, thereby fortifying the defense against workplace accidents.
