Generally, a single-girder model is recommended for applications with a lifting capacity under 50t, a span within 35m, and no special operational requirements. A double-girder gantry crane is preferable if wide gantry legs are required, high operating speeds are needed, or if heavy, long, or large loads are frequently handled.
Selection of Gantry Cranes
I. Selection Criteria
The equipment complies with the relevant provisions of the general-purpose gantry crane standards GB/T 14406–1993 and GB 5905-86.
II. Span and Cantilever Length
The span of a gantry crane is a key factor influencing the crane's own weight. During selection, the span should be minimized as much as possible while still meeting operational requirements and adhering to standard span series.
III. Principles for Determining Wheelbase
(a) It must satisfy stability requirements for the gantry frame along the direction of the crane rails;
(b) The external dimensions of the cargo must allow for smooth passage through the plane of the support leg framework;
(c) A proportional relationship should be maintained between the wheelbase (B) and the span (S); typically, B is set at (1/4 to 1/6) of S.
IV. Determining Clearance Dimensions
During operation, adequate clearance must be maintained between the gantry crane's external dimensions and the cargo or transport vehicle lanes in the storage yard to facilitate loading and unloading. Generally, when transport vehicles are loading or unloading within the span, a clearance of at least 0.7m should be maintained between the vehicle and the gantry legs. When not in operation, the lifting device must maintain a clearance of at least 0.5 meters from the transport vehicle; a clearance of at least 0.5 meters must also be maintained when the load passes the gantry legs.
